Well summer sure is in full swing and I am soaking up this gorgeous weather and blessings all around.

I was walking across a field to one of Gus’s (our 4 year old) softball game and the sun was setting- the weather was incredible, Ivy (16 months) was on my hip and Gus was running ahead and I thought to myself , “How did I get here?”

Have you ever done that? Asked yourself objectively- like somehow looking from above on your own life and asking , “Just how did I get here?” I think of it often and all the blessings I am receiving every day. Here the sun is perfect, the field is green and the smell of fresh grass, 2 beautiful babies that call me, really me, mommy, a successful business that allows me to do what I love everyday and I’m married to Nick Scott!! And I am able to help my mom realize her dreams through me and being able to work for me and sew all day. Really God- me? This is amazing, thank you.

That being said –that is exactly how I got here. It’s believing I can do this, and depending on a source bigger than myself- God.

Gus hit his first double this week in baseball at 4! I know–’proud mommy’ moment here- but seriously I saw joy on his little face and throughout his body that I just know will always exist in baseball for him. That is where his heart lies, so I pray for a good little athlete and that God will bless his skills to make God even bigger. If God can use purses to allow me to live my dream, why not baseball?

One more story about Gus and then I will get off my Mommy braggin’ bus! Gus has a hard time when you leave for anything, almost like a little anxiety when he is not sure what is going on. You have to reassure him about 100 times about the details of the day or he just can’t handle it. Well I had to run into a gas station to get a drink for the road and I told him to stay put- I would be RIGHT back and to stay with sleeping Ivy. I will lock the van. So I ran in and was hurrying so he wouldn’t be in complete hysterics when I got back. To my surprise, when I opened the van door, he was talking to himself out the window. I proclaimed, “GREAT job Gus, you didn’t fuss at all!” ”What are doing?” Gus replies plainly, “I was just praying for those guys over there Mama.” There was a construction crew across the road working. (Yes, here is where I tear up with gratitude. We play this game when we run errands in town that anyone out of a car (like on a bike or walking) we pray out loud for them. For things like- warms beds, warm food, good church, they know God, and then Gus offers his prayers as well-sometimes very comical- who doesn’t want mac and cheese for supper?! So that is where it started and he is now initiating the prayers himself. Good things for the heart.

What a week. A really good week and I really busy week. We are gearing up for Brookings Art Festival the biggest one we do all summer long. We are sewing 40 bags a week to gear up and my purse room is stocked high, it’s only going to get higher! Thank you for continued support and we will continue to make fashionable, functional and fun bags to tote on your cute bare shoulders this summer!

Here’s to a long summer with blessings stopping you in your tracks and have you wondering, “How did I get here?”

Perspective….

I know for sure that life offers “perspective’ to a lot of things. Especially as a mom, I am reminded of all kinds of different perspectives I can take when viewing something far or close up.

For example, our son Gus- 4- is very expressive and offers his perspective frequently to me! While I am stressing out about a day, so much to do, so little time, he is telling me about the little things that make me stop and slow down. He was playing outside and I heard him run inside as fast as he could as I was sewing, and proclaim, “Mommy-come quick, there is ‘bootiful’ yellow flowers all over the lawn!” Well that is one way at looking at it! Another day shortly after, he says, “Mommy- make a wish! ” holding onto one of those ‘bootiful’ yellow flowers again, and I make a prayer rather to get everything done that day, and he pauses to say “Mommy- we- (he and Ivy) didn’t hear you, you have to wish out loud for God to hear it!” Well I better speak up then!

I just love hearing his little brain work, because there isn’t much he doesn’t want to explore and share with me. He and Ivy both offer perspective that I tend to look over. Thank you God for children and their simple way of looking at things.

Flapper caps

On a different note….What a month May has been! We are gearing up for the Edina Art show and ready to go pretty soon. I am so excited for it. We have a different booth location this year. We are on France ave now, so look for us there instead of by Lund’s grocery store. We have been experimenting with some new styles and some new headwraps. I created a ‘summer’ head wrap that we are naming the “Flapper caps” because it shadows the 1920′s vibe a bit. They are really funky and totally a must have for spring/summer. I hope to have enough done to have at Edina and give to our 5 sales reps to get moving!

family

New this month also: I am so PROUD to announce that my mom was able to step down on one job to join RSD more full time! My mom, Peggy, has been sewing my accessories line for about 5 years now and now she is starting to help me with sewing the outsides of the bags now too! It is so much help and I just love having her be able to stay at home and sew, it is her happy place, a lot like me! Go mom- this is just thrilling to me!

That’s about it for now, I gotta get to sewing before my kiddos wake up and offer some new perspective on the rain outside and some of it dripping in our old farm house!

Happy Summer to all!

That title says a lot, I LOVE this time of season. I have been playing Christmas music since Halloween and been in the “mood” every day since!

We are doing 2 very fun Holiday shows this year that will be really fun for you and your girlfriends to attend and let the spirit of the holiday’s move you into action!

First, we have Minglewood Studios Merry Merry Marketplace. My friend Carmen hosts this in her home, and I just love attending because her home is so welcoming and beautiful. It looks like it came right out of Pottery Barn magazine, and during the holidays she has it way “dec’t ” out! I will have all my goods there to sell and you can design your own as well. It’s the perfect time to go to a show and not have to clean your house and get away with girlfriends to shop all independent hand made USA products. She has 19 artists attending, and even I take care of my Christmas list all in one swoop! The show is always the first weekend in Dec, so this year Dec. 3rd and 4th- hope to see you there! Mention this blog entry and receive 10% off when checking out. Merry Christmas to you!

2nd show is The Art Mom’s Holiday Boutique. I am really excited to do this as well. It’s their first year, but I have feeling they will doing this again after their wild success we are sending their way! It is 4 days for 4 weekends, starting the 26th and ending the weekend of Dec. 18th. They are Thursday-Sunday shows and they also will have various artists showing all their “homegrown” goods. I will be restocking them regularly with my goods, so keep shopping for more than weekend. Their boutique is located right next to Platos closet on 41st str in Sioux Falls. It is sure to be fun and full of good buys that are handmade and supporting local artists. Can’t wait to see their turnout results and when the next one is planned !

So other than that, start ordering your Christmas gifts now, I am asking that you place your orders by Dec. 2nd to get them in time for Christmas. I always end up pulling some all nighters on the last days there but I am hoping we can keep up and not have to do that this year! But please by all means—-go ahead and blow our socks off! We have a lot in stock as well, so feel free to call and chit chat about what I already have in inventory and buy from there for your loved ones or yourself, I love filling orders and sending joy your way! Have a very merry Christmas Season and remember to shop local and ‘homegrown.” God Bless this season He created.

That really describes this week for me. We had a huge serge of custom orders last week from customers and brides and gift-givers, and it was just awesome to lay them out and see just how many people are loving my things. So—that got me brainstorming …again!

I was cutting out bags for next week at like 11pm and I started brainstorming and dreaming big about where I want to go with this. I read this book about “Finding your Strengths” and discovered I have five main ones. I have blogged about this before, but I want to share what I discovered this time around. My vision board is in my kitchen where I cut out the bags on the island table. I saw the 5 strengths listed in bold: Positivity, motivator, activator, futuristic and maximizer. I really reflected on what each one means to me. I feel like they all speak so clearly about what God has gifted me in. I know I am doing what He intended and I just started thinking what else can I do with the skill set? Well to me it was saying, keep dreaming big, (Maximize), think bigger sales, (positivity) , starting designing own fabric line (futuristic), encourage others in their dreams whether customers or friends (motivator) and get started on all these products I have been sketching up (activator.) There you have it– a long list but believe me, they are now on my vision board. I want to do these things and they should be no brainers because I have the skill set to start them. So I introducing new and improved bags styles, boy baby booties (Gus stompers), sketching some fabric ideas and getting ahold of some big wig people on just how to go about having your own fabric printed, and then how to motivate my new sales teams to get out there and dream big themselves. Mark my words (and now my vision board) these things are going to get rolling, I just know it.

So I didn’t sleep well that night because I was too busy brainstorming about the new ideas and dreaming bigger. I would love to be a household name someday, (yah, I know a little cliche’ but I really think like that!) Rebekah Scott napkins? Rebekah Scott baby line? Rebekah Scott table linens? Rebekah Scott Art? Oh yeah, you name it, I have probably thought about it

So we are completing 40 more bags for Yankton River Boat Days this next weekend, August 20th-22nd, which will be lot of fun. Mention this blog entry and receive 10% off! I also just sewed about 30 Barbies for the event too, she is Miss. Popularity these days.

We are camping this weekend with my family as our vacation for the summer. I can’t wait to just check-out for awhile from deadlines and due dates, this should be fun!

Thanks for a great summer, and keep on me about what’s new and exciting, even a “motivator” needs pick-me-ups!

What an awesome summer! I simply love summertime and love my life in summer. I can’t believe school is starting so soon!

We have Okoboji this Saturday, and we are really excited. I have about 40 more pairs of Ivy Toes to bring and they are so cute, I am just glad I got them done in time for it! We also have plenty of pollies, cosmetics and Barbies to go around also. It seems this summer our accessories lines are just flying off the hook, and it’s tough to stay on top of things and get them all done and out there. The show is 10-5 and we have a corner booth again- #14, hope to see you there!

What a week I have had with ND! I am so pleased we did the Fargo Street Fair, we have had a lot of follow up orders this week and there is nothing better! I love giving customers even more of what they like and when they advertise to their friends and family our customer base grows and grows, thank you!

I have been shopping some new fall fabrics, and I just simply can’t wait to get them in! They are so fun, and this time really textural, I just love it. Great color, great texture and great fun! Stay tuned for the ones I get made up!

It was perfect weather this morning for a run. I got up early because Iversyn slept through the night and I couldn’t believe how well rested I felt and I knew I better use all the energy! So I ran and then reflected with my bible and journal and then my brain started brainstorming like crazy about business and fabrics and designs, it’s going to be a great fall full of new styles and new inspirations! Thanks again for a great summer so far, and here’s to a great August!

What an awesome evening we just had! I took my little family unit, Gus and Ivy for a picnic on our farm. We packed hotdogs, yogurt, oreo cookies, bananas, and milk—it was perfect! (Except I might have packed more oreos and chocolate and maybe a diet coke, but it was perfect for my toddler We then packed our blanket and of course a soccer ball, Gus LOVES sports, so we never go anywhere without a ball, some kids need blankies for comfort, Gus needs a ball!

It was really a romantic scene with the two of them as we picnice– well sort-of. The bugs were out, the hotdots got cold, and the sun was really hot, but I have a feeling Gus will never forget it,-okay he’s three-chances are he will, but I like to think he won’t I was just so proud of myself for thinking of the picnic and then actually doing it. When I settled them both down for the night, Gus told me- Mommy, we need to do a picnic again- even further away on the farm and let’s bring Daddy! (Daddy has softball on Wednesday nights . So yes it was perfect and I will do that again for my soul’s good and for my kids memories.

As for work— still loving it! We are busy getting some new fabrics for fall in and thinking up some new styles, more of the messenger style but smaller for grab and go. Also we have made up about 5 different baby boy booties and we are still working out the kinks to put them into production and get them made up, they are super cute so far. They are all different plaids, with navy blue, black or brown leather- we are calling them….”Gus Stompers”!! I just love the name of course, thanks to my Aunt Jannell who thought of the cute and very appropiate name, little boys do tend to stomp don’t they?

We are making scarves like crazy as well…we will try to keep you updated via the website and facebook about what stores have them and where to buy them. We have great plaids and new neon plaids as well, I have already “claimed” 2 of them and I’m making my sister hold off for the customers to buy first! The sewing closet is full of bags getting ready for Okoboji Art Show on August 7th, and River Boat Days in Yankton SD on August 20-22nd. Can’t wait for both, we love seeing customers and seeing their reaction to our new things. By the way, book your fall trunk shows now, we are filling up really fast, into Oct and Nov. already! Email us at rebekahscottdesigns@yahoo.com and we can chit chat about dates!

So that’s the latest from the Scott household and RSD. I am dreaming as big as ever, I made a goal on my vision board to “design fabric.” So some day- down the road I will do it, just gotta let it happen. Thanks God for making it possible to dream this big, I know You have my back!

Goodness we are almost there! I have only 15 more to be ready for Brookings Summer Arts this weekend and Fargo Downtown Street Fair next week, July 15-th-17th. It has been the a whirlwind this last couple of weeks but we survived.

I want to thank you- all my fans- again because you are what keep us going. I think of how much people enjoy our products and look forward to seeing what’s new and I know that’s all of you who continually drive us to be better and bigger.

I took a much needed break this evening and made spaghetti and then went for a walk on our farm. Boy do I love my life. We have the prettiest farm that my husband’s family runs and the weather this evening was just so beautiful, God really delivered a masterpiece. So Gus , Ivy and I made it to the swing set and played for almost an hour. I was really conscious about staying present with the two of them while we played. I didn’t think about work or getting things done once they were down for the night, I just watched and soaked in all of them and the night air. I smelled and kissed Ivy’s head right below me in the snuggly, I listened to Gus’ giggles as he pretended to be a super hero flying on the swing and I touched the grass beneath my bare toes. All the while thinking, my God, my God you are amazing, THANK YOU. This is my life, this moment- this precious moment, be here right now I reminded myself– it was amazing.

So here we go, Brookings Arts is going to be fun and exciting. I can’t wait to see how the grand debut of the Ivy Toes goes and the new styles and fabric are bought up. Hope to see you all soon! Now back to finishing up

I thought I would blog about what Sarah and I consider show “must-haves.”

We always get groceries to have in the booth because we can no longer smell the fair food without getting a little nauseous after all this time. I can’t eat another corn dog or Indian taco. But maybe someday the aroma will allure me! So for groceries we get bagels, grape jelly, peanut butter, grapes, apples, water, some form of chocolate and Sarah’s latest trail mix concoction. (She likes to do it, makes her feel domestic or something .

We always pack her laptop for blogging, a people magazine for a hot bubble bath after the show and usually a hair dye kit for Sarah, (we like to experiment!) We also have a camera, the breast pump, the I-pod, and the infamous tally sheet for fanny packs. That’s right, we tally fanny packs and mullets, if there is a certain number too many, we rethink the show, seriously , the fanny pack was the worst invention ever, who wants to add weight to any part of that region, and the mullet died in the 80’s, let it go, not let is grow!

Sarah’s usually has her lesson plans for her full time job as a pre-school teacher and I have my design pad to sketch anything I see that I think would be fun to add to my line.

So there you have it, the must-haves, now back to tallying mullets and fanny packs—-
