Ooh this good life we live…
Posted in Uncategorized on 01/29/2012 09:55 pm by BekahI know I say it a lot but I really feel like life just can’t get any better! I had a momental month this year in January. I celebrated along side my twin siter a 30th birthday! What a year we have had, what a lot years we have had!! I love being a twin sister and to tell the truth I love being in my thirties now too. It’s only about 7 days in, but so far so good-ha! I had a lot to be grateful for that day and a lot to be grateful for this last 30 years. I did some reflecting on where I was and where I am and goodness I have been blessed. I think of that song by Rascal Flatts about the broken road and where it leads. We have all had our “broken roads” and I think it’s good to look back and see just what we have been ‘riding’ on. God is good and some of the silly prayers or even serious prayers are answered or go answered in a a way I wasn’t expecting. So 30 years have been great but I am really excited to live out the next 30 years. I am a ridiculous goal setter, (it’s in my nature;) and I would like to record some things I want to accomplish in my next 30 years.
1. Go to another country for pleasure.
2. Take my RSD team on a mission trip.
3. Take mini honeymoons every year with my husband.
4. Give up something every year that would make me reflect on what God has blessed me with. (This is a tough one –but I feel very important to realize just how much we really have. I am thinking one year without chocolate, or shopping or just shoe shopping, or bubble baths, or tea, something that is like fasting for a year in reflection.)
5. Send my parents on a well deserved cruise
6. Work up to giving 30% tithe each year
7. Expand my “Olive Branch Line” for the children
8. Meet a celebrity — Nate Berkus would be great! ( a little fun in there is good too!)
9. Buy my husband a really nice pick up and surprise him with it!
10. Continue to manage a business that equips women to stay at home and raise their babies while doing what they love.
11. Design my own fabric line. (We are getting closer!)
These are just a few- but a good start- next I need to create timelines for each goal to make sure I stay accountable to this. I learned about the time line from the book “The 4 hour work week”- I highly recommend.
So here’s to being 30 and happy and ready for more of the goodness. Onward and upward! xxoo Bekah
I LOVE January!
Posted in Uncategorized on 01/09/2012 09:59 pm by BekahI Love January, not only because it’s my birthday month
but also because it’s goal setting month!
I love goal setting and January warrants that I get started! So I am busy setting new goals for Rebekah Scott
Designs, my personal life and even goals for some family members. (You would be amazed at how I get people to start moving and get inspired, and yes they get a little annoyed by me!)
I also have a strange overwhelming feeling to start cleaning/sorting/organizing every corner of the house. I can help but want to start fresh, like spring cleaning in winter, and I start to purge! Gus- our four year old, asks me “Mommy what are all the boxes for?” I reply, “they are for getting rid of stuff!”
Our date nights (Yes I can proudly say we now make time for date nights!) consists of what we want to see happen in 2012 and what we want to change for 2012 that didn’t’ pan our for 2011. I love buying new calenders and filling them up with hopeful goals and tentative trips.
We have our first official RSD staff party this Sunday and I just got done writing our sheet of stats/facts of the last 8 years of business. I get so emotional looking at the whole scale of things and realizing just far we have come. God has blessed this little farm girls dream and made it as big as I had ever wanted-while also blessing all my little/big requests for a family and watching them grow up next to me, thank you God- this life is amazing.
I have been nominated for the “Small Business Home Based Business of the year Champion.” (That’s a serious mouth full!) in SD. I am really praying we succeed and that God will bless a trip to Washington if we win! I have never been there and would love the opportunity to go and celebrate.
I want to mention the top books that made a difference to me in my everyday life in the year 2011: (I love reading and these books offered tons of insight.)

That sums it up for January pretty much, just goal setting and dreaming even bigger for 2012. I have posted some
pics of my vision board and goal board in my work space to get inspired

Our christmas Letter for 2011
Posted in Uncategorized on 12/30/2011 03:13 pm by BekahHello! I wanted to share our christmas letter for 2011 with all of you to read. We kinda have a miniture competition going on with my siblings for who can write the best/funniest letter at year end….I always lose, but here’s my stab at it!
Whew –what a year! I decided that this year it would be quite appropriate to write our Christmas letter to look like facebook newsfeeds. After all – modern technology seems to have us summing up everything in either 2 sentences or 140 characters….so here goes!
The Facebook newsfeeds of the Scott Family 2011: (please note my family calls me “Laura Ingalls Wilder when it comes to technology, so these weren’t really printed on facebook
Meet Ivy- full of smiles, spice and all things busy!
Meet Gus- full of excitement, sport and all things moving!
Success according to Gus- After a trip to Goodwill to drop off goods we talked about why we give to others and I asked Gus why do some people not have everything they need? He promptly replied, “Because their mommies don’t sew purses.” (Well he must think it pays for something!)
Cautious vs. Fearless- We were playing in our shop and I was spinning the kids around in an old office chair–Gus was holding his own arm handle and Ivy’s arm handle while Ivy had her arms completely in the air, riding that rollercoaster ride!
-We just got another baby- well sort-of- a very expensive one (an excavator) – we call him “Digger” and he is adjusting to our family’s busy lifestyle.
I didn’t know it was possible for a man to be so happy after digging in the dirt all day, but Nick is so happy when he is digging!
Is it possible to still hear the sewing machine in my sleep and then wake up disappointed that I didn’t get any done in my sleep too?
Gus, 4, just got his first double in baseball and we will remember the excitement on his face for years to come- and that we had to tell him to keep running past first! Go Gus!
Somehow little scars on little girls feels like such an injustice to them! What about ruffles and lace, not stitches and bruises!
Two sisters tying the knot in the one summer- must make a checklist: Clean up landscape for all the guests from Montana- make Ivy’s dress for Sarah’s wedding, and prepare a killer toast! (Some of you may have heard: It delivered memories, smiles and plenty of laughs- I meant to say to Kirk “Make a big deal out of her bumps and bruises because she likes to show you her boo boos”- but I didn’t get it quite right…just move around the ‘boo boos’ letters a little and you may start to giggle!)
Speaking for 2 groups this week- hope to motivate passion for life, drive for success and happiness in self. (And not pull another flub after Sarah’s toast!)
Dear God please allow my children to always hug and love each other so much…I just love when I see them as “buddies.”
It’s really hard to let our preschooler load the bus when he is a full 2 heads shorter than the next kid! I wish I could fit in his backpack!
Met the bus driver today and he does not fit the ‘romanticized’ ideal in my head- isn’t it in their contract somewhere to be at least 65 with gray hair and a jolly smile?
Dressed the kids for trick or treating and this very cute man joined us….”Oh that’s right— Harvest was over before Halloween!”
Asked Nick today what was his next job…and he said “Well let me finish the 4 I have right now!”
Business is good- we are adding a 16X30 foot addition to our farm house- time to let this little stay-at- home plan blossom!
Hired an office manager to help with paperwork, now if I can just convince her that doing our house chores is part of her job description….
That about sums it up: A wonderful year full of growth, laughs, milestones and good farm life. We are so grateful for this year and all it had to offer and we praise God for each moment He allows us to spend. Have a joy filled year with lots of laughs, smiles and blessings!
Love the Scotts
Nick, Bekah, Gus and Ivy
Tis’ the season
Posted in Uncategorized on 11/29/2011 03:09 am by BekahHello all! I apologize for waiting so long to write but it has been a dousy of a season, and we have only just begun!
I am just thrilled/overwhelmed/excited when I think about the growth of Rebekah Scott Designs. We are so busy and so full of life it’s just amazing. God has really made my dreams come true. (I realize I sound like a broken record, but I really still see it that way!) I have dreamt about hiring stay-at -home mommies to work with RSD as seamstresses and sales reps and whatever other positions I can find and that is just what we are doing! I am still doing most of the heavy labor, sewing my little heart away- but I really still like just sewing. It’s good therapy and good for my heart. I did however let go of some organizing things and have an official “office manager” that really really helps me! Go Erika- so excited you are part of my team!
I am reading this book called the “The 4 hour work week” and have really enjoyed and gained a lot of perspective from it. I can’t do just what the title suggests– but it has offered some insight into what I can let go of and let others thrive at. After all if RSD is going to be the size I need it to be to keep helping others use their gifts/talents from God I gotta get some help with growth, and He is providing! The biggest blessing I see lately– is my mom working with me. She now stays at home for 3/4 time and sews her little heart out;something she has wanted to do for 25 years, how cool is that, I fulfilled my moms dreams and continue to! God is good!
We are slammed with Christmas orders, I love filling them. I like to hear from customers who are ordering for sisters/best friends/cousins/ mothers, so fun to hear the connections of how they discovered us and how they love our things. I love the husband calls too- ” Oh yah- I need to order a Rasin harmony Gretta with Black leather?” Too funny!! Go loving husbands! It is still pretty strange to hear people say that Rebekah Scott Designs is at the top of their list, me? Really? You want RSD as your whole Christmas gift? Unbelievable. And when I like at the time and commitment I have made to this dream, I believe it! Thank you customers-you always make me bigger and better in all that I design!
So I decorate Christmas entirely too early but you can’t tell me Thanksgiving has feelings and will someday look down at me, believe me I am still very thankful for all the blessings poured on me but I just simply have to get the decs out and the spirit circulating.
Speaking of Christmas joys, we are really spreading our joy this season. This week alone we have 4 shows back to back sharing our Christmas gifts to all of you. Be sure to check out Art moms boutique in SF by the Olive Garden strip mall- only 2 more weekends to shop, Thurs-Sun, and we have TONS of products there to choose from. (Loves these gals, so energized and fun!) Also -one of my favorite shows is this weekend at Minglewood Studios- called “Merry merry Marketplace.” My friend Carmen hosts it in her beautiful home outside Sioux Falls and every year I go, I get inspired by her wares, her home and her other artisan friends— it is a perfect little girlfriends evening to usher in the spirit of Christmas and spirit of giving. Buy handmade-buy honest joy! This Friday 5-8 and Saturday 10-2.
We have been booking shows for business’ where their hardworking employees get to choose a bag right in their office lounge or break room and pick their own gift rather than a “staple office gift.” Love the personalization in it and the thought in it! If you are interested in hosting a trunk show in your office area, email us at info@shoprsd.com and we will come set up!
Our house addition is coming along but slowly until my husband wraps up all his projects on the farm before the snow flies….I am not allowed to pray for snow until he gets it all done! Next step is house-wrap and windows then maybe inside insulation? My heart will jump out of my chest when I see progress on the inside, just can’t hardly wait to create/design in the new space when I can see it all laid out and not crammed in my little closet- the ideas are already flowing!
Remember to place orders by Dec. 6th for Christmas deliveries or call us at 605-757-6655 and see what I have in stock to be sent out right away- we have a TON in stock done that I would love to ship out to happy women! (Don’t mind our background noise of little ones, they can’t hold their holiday happiness as well as stressed out mommies!)
Merry Christmas everyone- it’s going to be a great big birthday party for the Christ child this year and His blessings are already abounding! Onward and Upward!
2, yes 2 new styles!!!
Posted in Uncategorized on 09/30/2011 07:53 pm by BekahI am pretty excited too everyone! I have 2 new styles to introduce the other gals to the RSD line. Jill and Lia.
Jill- $110 large
Jill is after my aunt Jill, who is just fantastic and has always been a major inspiration in my life. She is the professional looking bag with 3 handle options! She has a great leather square bottom that is 6 inches wide! Her lining has pockets that go all the way around the inside. There is one shallow for her cell phone and two for her pens and the rest for all her other essentials. (including pockets for diaper wipes and bottle if you need those items!) Jill is professional looking and perfect for who women who need options.
Lia is after my best friend who really isn’t a “purse person” (however I have converted her to LOVE mine
They are just so fun and new and different. Look for them at shows and trunk show and eventually on our shopping cart at www.shoprsd.com. Love my job- now go enjoy it!
Elegant Mommy Blog Entry:
Posted in Uncategorized on 09/30/2011 04:17 pm by BekahI was recently asked by the Elegant Mommy store in Sioux Falls to share a little bit about my business and how I make it all work from home. Enjoy!
~What is the name of your business and what do you make?
Rebekah Scott Designs. I sew and design purses, children’s shoes and purse accessories including some hair accessories.
~Tell us how you decided to begin creating what you do and how it has changed your life.
I grew up West River in Philip, South Dakota. From a very young age, I was always playing in mom’s sewing scraps; I could spend hours designing Barbie clothes and hats for my friends. Around the age of ten, I was sewing stocking caps and selling them on the playground to friends. I give my mother all the credit for teaching me how to sew.
I again really got excited with sewing and designing when my graduation gift for college was a serger from my mom and dad. I continued to save money at Christmas by sewing purses for my friends and family. Word spread fast and soon I was getting calls from people I had never met placing orders for purses. I started small until it took over my life and I knew that this was something God had prepared me for all my life and it was time to embrace it!
To this day, I am still amazed at God’s goodness and His grace – I love designing and would not want any other job in the world. So, with God’s and my husband’s incredible encouragement and support, I decided to launch Rebekah Scott Designs.
~Tell us about your family…kids, husband, pets, etc
I have 2 kiddos, Gus-4 and Ivy- 18 months. I love being a mom, I started this at home to remain at home with them and getting to see all their firsts- and so far so good, haven’t missed a single step! My husband embraces my wild ideas still and loves to see me succeed, we still think “my goodness how did we get here? ” I met my husband at church camp 16 years ago and he still turns my head!
My immediate family is absolutely essential in my business. My mom is my most full-time employee and my twin sister is my sales leader, she is so good at it. My dad helps with my display units and weights for shows and any trailer trouble
and the rest of my family- including inlaws- just make sure to spread the word!
~Tell us about how you are able to do what you do and balance your family life…how do you make it work?
Well we balance and then we re-balance and then we re-balance. That’s our life. I am very self-disciplined by nature so I lead a “tight ship” as they say. We have a very scheduled day at home here so my children understand what happens now and then next, that way I can keep sewing and running our home. Good thing my children don’t know any different, they just know mommy sews and I get to play. I have rules about work: No turning the machines on Sunday and no work from 11:30-1:30pm ( lunch, ball time and nap time). As long as I am consistent they are too
.
~Do you do anything in addition to your at-home business?
Is there anymore time? Ha! I do love to decorate my home and make old things new-er. And I love farm life, so I try to help with cows and feeding men during harvest and that sort of thing.
~Is there any advice you would give to other WAHMs or those that aspire to work at home?
Write your ideal day out and your total vision for your company, what exactly do you want to see in your future? Be disciplined and do something everyday to make the “dream” bigger or one step further to your ideal lifestyle- one email, one phonecall, one google search, something. Ask God to work out the details and ask to be His vessel onward, nothing is possible without His tail winds. He gave us wings, but He controls the wind.
